Welcome! I'm Zoey Liu and I'm the founder of Unlimited Psychology. I'm a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. I have over 5 years of experience providing mental health support within a variety of different settings (i.e., addiction treatment centre, forensic settings, and private practice.)
I believe that people are inherently resilient and have the power to overcome life's challenges, even if it feels impossible sometimes. I am committed to providing a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients to explore their current resources and learn new skills so they can create the life they aspire for.
I offer a personalized approach to therapy to meet the unique needs of each client. I draw from multiple theoretical approaches including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Emotion-focused therapy, Narrative Therapy. Additionally, I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) to help my clients reclaim their life from symptoms of trauma.
Individual therapy sessions are designed to help clients navigate a wide range of mental health challenges. My interests include supporting individuals with anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation, substance use, OCD, motor vehicle accidents, and cross cultural issues. I utilize evidence-based treatments to help clients build resiliency, develop healthy coping skills, and achieve their goals.
Couples therapy sessions help partners deepen their connection, improve communication, and resolve conflicts. I work with couples to identify patterns of behaviour that may be causing distress and provide tools to help them build a stronger, healthier relationship.
Let's debunk some myths about sex and help you achieve a consensual and pleasurable sex life! Sex therapy can be a safe space to explore your sexuality/gender and improve your understanding of yourself and/or your partner(s). In addition, sex therapy can be beneficial for a variety of concerns, including recovering from an affair, performance anxiety, painful sex, mismatched desires, sexual trauma, "problematic" pornography use, out-of-control sexual behaviours, offending behaviours, etc. I have extensive training in sex therapy and have had the pleasure of supporting individuals with the above-mentioned sex-related concerns. I have also gained invaluable experience in forensic settings working with people who have offended.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. According to EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), it is an extensively researched effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms.
IQ/Giftedness assessments allow parents and educational professionals to understand a child's cognitive abilities better. Often, the results of IQ/cognitive assessments are used by schools to inform program placements and provide personalized accommodations to create a supportive yet challenging for a child's growing mind.
